Lake Louise Activities

In addition to skiing or snowboarding at the ski resort, there are various Lake Louise activities during winter. The Lake Louise village has an information centre that provides suggestions for activities, or your hotel can assist you.

The lake and surrounding area is a bit of a centre piece for activities which include ice-skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and horse-drawn sleigh rides.

Lake Louise Skiing Activities

Lift assisted guided backcountry ski tours are available that explore the sidecountry areas of Lake Louise.

Cross-country skiing at Lake Louise is a bit of a drawcard considering the incredible mountain scenery. The area has 70km of trackset trails, and cross country ski rentals are readily available at the Lake Louise rental outlets.

Or if you’re an avid powder hound and want an amazing day, you can go heli skiing or heli boarding with RK Heliski based at the Panorama Ski Resort. They provide shuttles from Banff to their base area.

The other option for a day of powder skiing is to head out with Purcell Heli Skiing in Golden near Kicking Horse (79km west of Lake Louise).

Family & General Activities

Tubing is available at the Lake Louise Ski Resort.

There is dog-sledding with Kingmik Sled Dog Tours. Different packages are offered with trips ranging from 30 minute introductory tours to two hour trips that head to the Kicking Horse Pass at the Continental Divide.

It’s also a great experience to go ice skating on Lake Louise. Skates can be hired through the sports store in the village or at the chateau rental shop. They also rent out hockey equipment.

Other Lake Louise Winter Activities

Hiking to the Johnston Canyon Ice Falls is a great way to explore the winter beauty of the region. Tours include transport to the trail head, use of ice cleats, and a guided walk of the canyon and falls.

Snowmobiling isn’t permitted inside the Banff National Park, but there are a couple of snowmobile companies in Golden that offer guided tours that include a hotel pick up from Banff and Lake Louise.
